About Amy Thomson, NP

I am a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who trained at the University of California, San Francisco. I have been a Community Mental Health provider in the Bay Area community for 18 years.  With a client- centered lens and evidence-based practice I provide psychiatric assessments, medications and psychotherapy for adults. I listen with a sincere interest to understanding your experience & concerns and with a compassionate approach teach adaptive strategies that foster wellness. Building a strong therapeutic connection is one of the aspects of this work I enjoy the most. Treatment planning integrates medication & support from non pharmaceutical interventions such as mindfulness, sleep hygiene, exercise, spiritual practice, social support and psychotherapy to reunite your mind and body. My area of focus is psychological trauma and mood disorders.

Testimonial

“After seeing many therapists and specialists, I found Amy, and I finally felt at ease. I feel she was the first to take the time to truly get to know me and I felt understood. I've made big strides in my life thanks to her, and I look forward to our continued relationship. I cannot recommend her enough."

Initial Assessment

$400 - 60 min

During our first meeting, which will typically last approximately 60 minutes, we will begin by getting to know each other. This will offer us an opportunity to discuss your symptoms, supports, and stressors. As part of fully understanding your mental health, you may be required to complete a few additional forms. At the conclusion of the assessment, we will discuss your diagnosis and our treatment recommendations, which may involve a combination of therapy, medication, and additional supports. If medication is prescribed, you will receive a prescription and follow-up recommendations. Depending on your history and current medical conditions, we may require more than one session to complete the assessment.

Follow-Up Medication Management & Psychotherapy Visit

$350 50 min / $175 25 min

Follow-up visits generally last between 25 and 50 minutes and are essentially a regular check-in with your Nurse Practitioner to discuss progress, symptoms, and any potential side effects. It is our goal to collaboratively work with you in developing a plan of action that moves you forward towards optimum health. Therefore, based on your progress, follow-up visits could occur frequently, say every two weeks, or as infrequently as three months apart.
